Lesson 01 of 05
Silhouette First
If your build reads as a clear black shape from 500 studs, it's memorable.
Legendary environments have readable silhouettes. Before adding any detail, squint at your build. Does the outline tell a story?
The silhouette test: screenshot your build, desaturate it, and blur it. If the shape is still identifiable and interesting, you're on the right track.
Great silhouettes have
- A clear focal point (the highest or most dramatic point)
- Varied heights and widths (no uniform rectangles)
- Negative space that frames positive mass
- Asymmetry that implies history and life
luau
1-- Exercise: Build three silhouettes
2-- 1. A pyramid (stable, ancient, powerful)
3-- 2. A spire (aspirational, magical, vertical energy)
4-- 3. Asymmetric mass (broken, mysterious, lived-in)
5
6-- After each: view from 500+ studs, take a screenshot
7-- Desaturate the image. Can you still identify the structure?
8
9-- Scripted camera for consistent silhouette review:
10local cam = workspace.CurrentCamera
11cam.CameraType = Enum.CameraType.Scriptable
12cam.CFrame = CFrame.new(
13 Vector3.new(0, 100, 500), -- viewpoint
14 Vector3.new(0, 50, 0) -- look target
